Sucess =]

I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I wouldn't fail.
The same four walls and busywork were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I'd never done before,
But stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.
I said it didn't matter that I wasn't doing much.
I said I didn't care for things like commission checks and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.
I couldn't let my life go by just watching others win.
I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I'd never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.
If you're in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true.
Reach for your future with a smile; success is there for you!

Here is some iCAN footage about the building of iCAN at Civic Square. The awesome-ness of it all still astounds most of the people involved. Thinking back now we still wonder that over a month ago we didn't even know each other and now we're best friends because we did this.

Congratulations Claire - Welcome Home
Claire was selected as one of the 12 kiwis representing New Zealand on the 2009 Ship for World Youth. The seven week international youth leadership programme aims to develop strong and continuing links among the youth of other nations by networking and training onboard the vessel. It gives the young leaders the chance to be exposed to a wide variety of cultures and ideas which will enable them to make a visible international contribution.
While on board, Claire drew on her work with the intercultural program AFS and as a tutor of former refugees for the Wellington Somali Council to participate in seminars and discussions on cross-cultural communication and understanding. Other seminars on leadership, working with young people and education.
For its 21st voyage, the ship left Japan on January 23 heading for the Pacific. After visiting Tonga and Vanuatu it docked in Auckland on February 11 for four days, before making its way back to Japan to arrive on March 3. Claire joined other young leaders from Canada, Japan, Egypt, Fiji, Mauritius, Norway, Peru, Tonga, United Arab Emirates, Vanuatu, Venezuela, and Yemen.
Welcome Home Claire, we are stoked to have ya home!
Much Love,

End of 2008 Update
Hey There,
What a year it’s been! You are probably aware that ON THE EDGE (OTE) has been active for over 5 years now, and this year we’ve gone through some pretty life-changing events, that will make OTE even bigger and better in 2009, and years to come!
We have signed a new Trust Deed, appointed a new board, raised $27,000.00 to keep our new office, and our new website is about to go live in Jan with our events, resources, blogs and crew profiles so keep checking it for more updates! www.ontheedgetrust.com
We’d like to say a huge thank you to you all! We are absolutely stoked you are a part of what we do. OTE would not have been possible if it wasn’t for people like you – it is our supporters and team working together that makes OTE amazing, and reflects what we have achieved to date.
We would like to make a few special metions:
- First and foremost the Crew for their passion and commitment
- Bruno, James and the team at Duncan Cotterill Legal
- John Davies and the team at The Victoria Management school
- All our space supporters and contributers
- Rex Nicholls and Lloyd Morrison who didn’t hesitate to support when we really needed you
- Alasdair MacLeod for his encouragement and belief in our vision
- Cameron Harland from Saatchi & Saatchi for his support with the space and for helping us to begin shaping a sustainable future
We have a full on year planned out ahead for 2009, with our Conference taking place in May, more Forums during the year and an exciting new event during Leadership Week. All of which will be happening alongside our continuing work towards being a self funding and sustainable organisation.
If you haven’t seen our space yet feel free to drop by anytime(see address below). There are so many things we’re wrapped about starting up next year! We look forward to seeing you in 2009 – probably our biggest, busiest, and most exciting year yet!
Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! Have a most wonderful holiday, and we can’t wait to see you in the New Year! Let’s make this an amazing year!
Much Love,
Ben, The OTE Board & Crew
